If you have a laptop, Network-Manager running and use ACPI to hibernate, look at this bug report and its nice tip :

Editing /etc/default/acpi-support with this line :

STOP_SERVICES=”networking”

solved an old issue I used to have (and for which I wrote a dirty script with modprobe, dhclient, etc.
